Say hello to zappi
The EV charger that plays nicely with solar. Designed and manufactured in the UK.
Three EV charging modes
Zappi provides you with tailor made charging to suit your lifestyle and demands. Whether you need a “fast” charge to get you going in a hurry, or are happy to wait for your charge to take place using 100% renewable energy. zappi gives you the flexibility to charge on your terms.
eco+ charging alsoutilises power from the grid or your own power source. However the charge power is continuously adjusted in response to changes in generation or power consumption elsewhere in the home. Your electric car charging will pause if there is too much-imported power, continuing only when there is surplus free power available.
The eco charge mode is a mixture of both green energy and energy imported from the grid. eco mode minimises the use of grid power, generally taking advantage of cheaper rates overnight, but can also charge using 100% self-generated (free!) energy.
If the surplus generation drops below 1.4kWh some power will be drawn from the grid to top it back up.
In fast mode, your vehicle will be charged at maximum power. This power can come from a renewable energy source or simply from the grid. The cost of this will depend on the mode and the car itself. If you don’t have solar, zappi will charge just like an ordinary Mode 3 charging point.

What is the cost of charging an electric vehicle at home?
This varies depending on your tariffs. Octopus offers smart charging at super low rates plus 6 hours of guaranteed cheap, green energy every night with at 7.5p /kWh off-peak rate. This works with more than 280 cars and chargers.
We have an Electric Peugeot Partner Van that gets charged charge every working day and costs around £60-70 per month. We are looking at transitioning all our vehicles to electric by 2026!
If you have solar, you can also charge your car for free! GivEnergy & Tesla also have EV Chargers that work with their batteries.
How long does it take to charge an electric vehicle at home?
This all depends on your cars battery capacity.
- Smaller 30kw batteries will charge in 2 – 4 hours.
- Larger 110kw batteries may take 9 – 12 hours with a 7kw charger.
- With a 22kW charger, a 110kw battery will charge in as little as 4 hours (provided the car can charge at that speed).
When batteries get to 80% charge, they often slow down the charge to preserve the length of battery life, and charging is often much faster from an empty battery.
Most users won’t use a full charge every day (like a tank of fuel) and will only be charging to top up the battery, so charging may only be for an hour or two each night.
