A Standalone Solution
As your electricity rates vary throughout the day, your Powerwall will autonomously charge when electricity costs are low and discharge when electricity costs are high, generating automatic savings. If you’re in an area that suffers from power cuts, Powerwall will also seamlessly provide backup power by detecting grid outages and automatically becoming the home’s main power source.
Pair With Solar & Recharge
With solar, you can generate more energy than you need. By having Powerwall, a rechargeable home battery, you can store this excess energy for use anytime—even when the sun goes down.
Powerwall will be charged by your panels during the day, storing all that energy that isn’t being used by your home. Powerwall can then run your home during the evening or at night, using up that stored energy before taking anything from the grid. The next day when the sun starts shining, the sustainable energy cycle starts again.

Powerwall 3 FAQ's
How much does the Tesla Powerwall cost in the UK?
The Tesla Powerwall 3 starts from £6,495 for the battery unit itself.
If your installation requires a Tesla Gateway, this adds an additional £1,000, bringing the typical installed price to around £7,495.
If you need more storage, Expansion Packs are available:
£5,500 when purchased separately
Significantly discounted when added at the same time as your Powerwall installation, allowing you to increase capacity at a much lower cost
At Apex Doma, we design every system around your home’s actual energy use. Whether you need a single Powerwall, a multi-unit setup, or backup capabilities, we make sure you only pay for the features and capacity that genuinely benefit your home.
How long does the Powerwall take to charge?
A Tesla Powerwall 3 can charge in 2–4 hours depending on the power source:
Solar power (daytime): Typically 3–6 hours depending on sunlight and system size
Off-peak tariffs (e.g., Octopus Cosy): Around 2–3 hours, depending on the charge window
With an expansion pack: Charge rate increases, reducing charge time even further
Because the Powerwall 3 has an 11.04 kW inverter and a 5 kW charging rate per unit (8 kW when paired with an expansion pack), it is one of the fastest-charging home batteries available in the UK.
Can a Powerwall power my home during a power cut?
Yes — the Tesla Powerwall 3 can power your home instantly during a power cut with 0-second changeover.
You won’t even notice the grid has dropped.
Depending on how your system is configured, a Powerwall can run:
- Lights
- Sockets
- Heating controls
- Appliances
- WiFi
- Security systems
- Electric gates
- Essential loads or even your entire home if sized correctly
If you need whole-home backup or want protection for sensitive equipment, we design a system that keeps everything running safely and smoothly.
How many Powerwalls do I need?
Most homes in the UK need 1–2 Powerwalls, depending on:
- Your daily energy usage
- Whether you heat with a heat pump
- If you want full-home backup or just essential circuits
- How much you want to charge during off-peak tariffs
- Whether you have EV charging
- Your long-term energy goals
Typical recommendations:
- 1 Powerwall (13.5 kWh): Small/medium homes, no heat pump
- 1 Powerwall + Expansion Pack (27 kWh): Medium homes with heat pumps, families with high usage
- 2 Powerwalls: Large homes, high energy usage, full-home backup
- 2 Powerwalls + Expansion Packs: Rural homes with long outages or large heat pump systems
During your design call, we calculate this using your smart meter data, seasonal demand, and tariff strategy to size the system correctly — not too big, not too small.
